The Baldwin County Board of Commissioners will hold a public auction, this Saturday, Sept. 26th, 2009, at 10 a.m. to liquidate over 100 vehicles and various pieces of equipment, including numerous trucks, Crown Victorias, trailers and heavy equipment. The auction will be held at the County Maintenance Department, located at 321 Linda Drive in Milledgeville.
The auction will be conducted by Macon-area auctioneers, L.W. Benton Company, Inc., in cooperation with Kelly Land and Auction Co., Inc., of Monticello.
Prospective buyers can preview the items up for bid on location Friday, Sept. 25, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday morning, before the auction, at 8 a.m. Bidders can also see individual items and place “pre-bids” on L.W. Benton Company’s website at www.bidderone.com, up until 10 p.m. the night before the live auction.
L.W. Benton Company president, L.W. “Bo” Benton Jr., says that economically tough times hit government agencies just like the rest of us and that as revenues fall, cities and counties feel the crunch.
“Surplus auctions are a way for agencies to take equipment that is no longer needed or being used and turn them into funds for other needs or purposes,” he explained. “Often times governments aren’t even aware just how many surplus items they have. It can add up pretty quick and that can be significant.”
Benton also said public auctions give citizens the chance to bid on items they’re interested in, possibly taking home a good deal all while putting money back into public coffers.
